In essence, your IQ score shows how versatile of a thinker you are and how good you are at identifying and solving problems from a limited amount of information.

Someone with average intelligence typically has an IQ between 85 and SAT vs. IQ Scores While both assessments attempt to assess intellectual ability, there is one major difference to keep in mind when considering SAT vs.

On the SAT, you can study hard and raise your score dramatically by mastering the key content areas and working on your logical and analytical skills. IQ tests, however, do not have a list of content for which you can prepare yourself by judicious study; they are testing more general reasoning abilities and not the knowledge you have. The line of relation was almost perfectly linear with no evidence of abrupt curvature at either extreme. Table 1 shows equivalent scores read from the smoothed line of relation. In no case did the smoothing amount to more than one point on the Otis scale.

The standard error of estimate for the SAT total score was ; the standard error of estimate for the Otis was 5. This correlation of 0. It is virtually certain that the line of relation and the regression line are not linear throughout the range of possible scores.

In fact, it is probable that abrupt curvature sets in a score levels higher and lower than those included here. The line would abruptly curve up at the higher end. IQ and Nobels.Of course, just because these tests are well correlated in general does not mean that one cannot make incrementally better predictions with additional information or, at least, adjust the confidence level accordingly. This seems to be broadly consistent with the education research that I have seen, such as the Coleman Report.

It seems that the results are usually that the socioeconomic status of the student matters the most, the socioeconomic status of the peers matters second most, and teachers matter third most.

Beyond that, there seem to be few factors that make a big difference. On the second one, Richard Kahlenberg has done substantial work showing that integrating schools by class helps the disadvantaged children by ensuring that the majority of kids are focused on learning.

I imagine you probably disagree with this research. If so, could you explain why? As for the third factor, I think the Chetty value added model is pretty convincing. We can debate endlessly how to get good teachers, but I know that the research shows that poorer kids usually get the worst teachers.

If you integrated the schools, that problem would be addressed. You argue repeatedly that the socioeconomic benefit is primarily or perhaps exclusively? Can you explain the mechanism for this? Is it just the best proxy for culture how the child is raised? It must be more than genetics because this relationship exists even after controlling for test scores. I love this blog. IQ societies appear to simply use the percentile LSAT as if it would be equivalent to an IQ test percentile as long as you accounted for difference in the two populations taking the test. The LSAT is a pool of people who have gone to college, generally did well there, and are still seeking more education, so the average LSAT taker is arguably quite a bit sharper IQ test wise anyway than the average person in the population at large.

That or they are just trying to get more members, and letting in great LSAT scorers is one way to do it that looks legit. University of Chicago, J. As many of you have pointed out therd is some correlation but you can not just superimpose the two bell curves and match the numbers. The bell curve of the IQ test is standardized for the entire population, while the bell curve of the LSAT is standardized for the population of people who take the LSAT which generally are among the best and brightest of their universities mostly. Also the IQ is standardized for age bands…our cognitive processing speed decreases with age after about In the LSAT we are all bunched together.

This is interesting. I took something resembling an IQ test when I was in elementary school.

I scoredwhich I still feel embarrassed about. I scored on the LSAT after about 3 weeks of preparation. I also scored around 91st percentile on the GRE, which I took a few years ago after about a 1. With the strictest time limits, my score drops quite a bit. The LSAT also involves grammar. It is VERY coachable. Anyone who gets coached should get a good score on it. But only an idiot would spend time practicing for a Mensa or IQ test!

Rich kids absolutely do not receive more time on the LSAT. The test takes place at designated locations and you sit with around people, some of whom are very rich. My iq was and my LSAT was with my now chemo brain and with no training. So would have scored higher with time to get better and training so probably reasonably close table. I actually had my IQ measured as a child as well for exactly the same reason you mentionedand it was measured at as well. If your IQ is athat puts you in the You CAN close that gap if you prepare effectively for this exam.
